One of our coolest trips was a few days spent in Porepunkah in Victoria. This is the perfect place for travelers who wish to see nice, small Australian country life. We ended up going there because Joshua’s sister lives there. So, we visited her, her husband Chad and their lovely dog Oscar for Easter Holidays.
For me (Evie) it was my first visit in this beautiful area, so,I was super excited!
Porepunkah is a little town in Victoria surrounded by pictureous mountains, wineries and beautiful nature. We were lucky to be there in the most beautiful time – autumn… when the leaves get stunning colors…
Living in Porepunkah is nice…calm… and I would even say relaxing. People know each other…they help each other… there is something like a local hobby – gardening. Josh’s sister grows her own veggies… creates yummy specialties like jam, chutneys etc., gives it to neighbours…and gets back something delicious from their garden 🙂 And no…his sister is not 60 years old…:) they just simply love natural grown, healthy products. and creating something on their own. 🙂
Porepunkah has few of local wineries. Josh’s sis works in one – Feathertop winery. Beautiful, family style place with great atmosphere. and a local attraction – big pig 🙂 Pig is loved by everyone and is very friendly.
InnPorepunkah there are I think 2 pubs and one cafe/restaurant. But my favourite is petrol station/post office/grocery shop and take away meals place!! All in one! Whole “mall” locked in a small building with old school gas distributors. 🙂 Soooo cool!
There is also a mexican cafe/restaurant. Loved the breakfast burrito!! Missing it so much!
Porepunkah is next to a bit bigger town- Bright. Nice town with lots of cute streets, nice local shops, few restaurants.
This is a great area for family holidays too. From Porepunkah to Bright you can go by car but the best way is to ride a bicycle. Old train track was turned into bike trail, that is next to the regular road. Its safe and straight…so even a beginner will have a great bike ride. Many of families were riding bikes everyday between towns. Beautiful nature surrounded by mountains…the experience is unreal! 🙂
Part of our trip was also visiting a restaurant that has a mini zoo where you can pet and feed the animals. Really beautiful place with scenic view. Plus great for kids…I had so much fun petting little deer named Bambi (of course) or adventurous goat that loved standing on a picnic table 🙂
Near Porepunkah there is a great drive to the top of Mount Buffalo. Great nature, and amazing views. Everything easily accessible by car 🙂
I loved every moment of our Porepunkah stay. Not only because its a family visit but also there is something calm and relaxing about this place. Is it nice people, nature or just simple lifestyle? I’m not sure…but I know i will definitely come back there! Not only to visit Naomi…but also to enjoy the Victoria’s town life.
